In the midst of the Nieuwmarkt neighborhood a special industrial building was built in the 1920’s to serve originally as a cribs factory. Later it became a sprockets factory. After prolonged vacancy Buro Amsterdam bought the property in 2013 from a housing association. In close consultation with local residents and District Centre, Buro Amsterdam developed a renovation plan to maintain the particular property and transform it into twelve industrial town houses.
The twelve open-plan houses have an industrial, loft-like appearance. The houses, all with two authentic shed roofs, have a height of up to approximately seven meters. The sloping roofs are equipped with a beautiful green roof landscaped with Sempergreen Sedum-mix blankets.
