What a difference green roofs can make to a residential area! This is demonstrated once again in this renovation project in the Vogelbuurt neighbourhood in the Dutch city of Oss. Housing corporation BrabantWonen decided to carry out major maintenance on 32 houses, with the aim of making them more sustainable, both on the inside and outside. For this purpose, the roofs of five blocks of 22 houses on Nachtegaallaan street were fitted with a green roof in combination with solar panels. Given the supporting structure of these houses, Sempergreen's lightweight Sedum roof system was chosen. In total, the project covers 1,000 m2 of Sedum roofs, installed by idverde. This metamorphosis gives a huge green boost to the residential area and, of course, to the residents' living comfort.
Home improvement with green roofs and solar panels
For this home improvement, all homes were fitted with new windows and doors with HR++ insulating glass and cavity insulation. In addition, the complete roofing was replaced, and the roofs were optimally insulated in accordance with current legal standards. On top of the new roofing, green roofs with PV panels have been installed. This not only provides a very green appearance, but also leads to energy-efficient homes. The presence of a green roof ensures a cooler ambient temperature and therefore a higher efficiency of the solar panels. We can call this a win-win situation!
