The Radisson Hotel Group has expanded its portfolio of 14 hotels in Poland with a newly built hotel in Sopot on the Baltic coast. The new Radisson Blu Hotel is located just 250 meters from the wide sandy beach and has 219 rooms, 2,000 m² of conference space and a spa and wellness center, where guests can fully relax. The undulating dune landscape is also reflected in the design of the hotel. A green roof with Sempergreen vegetation blankets has been installed on the undulating roof, so that the hotel blends in perfectly with its characteristic environment.
Green roof connects hotel with the surrounding landscape
The undulating roof is equipped with two types of Sempergreen vegetation blankets. Blue Grass Architektura Landscape designers, Artur Chmielewski and Jakub Nadolski, used a combination of low Sempergreen Sedum-mix blankets and taller Sempergreen Wildflower blankets for this project, using the grasses and wildflowers to emphasize the striped and wavy pattern. This means the hotel fits in perfectly with the surrounding dune landscape. The green roof also connects two buildings: a pavilion that is not permanently connected to the hotel, and a conference center. This creates the optical impression of one whole. The roof flows smoothly into the recreation area around the buildings. This solution is not only beautiful, it is also an excellent ecological solution. The green roof collects rainwater and stimulates the local biodiversity.
‘We believe that Radisson Blu Hotel, Sopot will be a vibrant resort throughout the year and one of the most prominent meeting and cultural venues within the TriCity’, Katarzyna Dowgiałło-Edel, general manager at Radisson Blu Hotel, Sopot.
