The New College House of University of Pennsylvania is a model of sustainability. The building is topped with a series of green roofs as part of the University’s new environmentally friendly standards. The 37,150 square feet green roof is installed by American Hydrotech on various roof levels and powered by Sempergreen Sedum-mix blankets.
Stormwater management
The new building - home to over 300 students - is very energy efficient. It conserves energy through high-efficiency lighting and optimal use of natural light. Another important aspect in the design is the capacity to retain storm water. The green roofs, lawns, and gardens retain 95 percent of storm water, thereby reducing the chance of flooding.
