A circular Business Campus, called ABC Square, has been realized by VolkerWessels Logistics Development and Delta Development Group on the new Schiphol Trade Park business park in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands. The logistics campus, with spaces for production, distribution and office space, has an area of 35,000 m2 and was designed by OPL Architecten. During the design process, the Cradle to Cradle® philosophy has been used as a guideline, which means that all materials used in the building process can be reused or easily recycled. Based on this philosophy, it was also decided to place eight Cradle to Cradle certified SemperGreenwalls at the front of the building.
Green facades have a positive effect on the environment
The new-build development is characterized by the use of circular materials, lots of daylight and greenery. The SemperGreenwalls, each with a height of 12 meters, cover an area of 156 m2 in total, giving the building a sustainable and green appearance. The green facades are not only of aesthetic value, but also contribute to the local biodiversity, cleaner air and provide a cooling effect on the invironment. The green facades are equipped with a web-based Plant Care System, which automatically provides the plants with the correct amount of water and nutrients.
BREEAM Excellent certificate
During the design process and the construction of the ABC Square, obtaining the BREEAM certificate was a major priority. The building has been assessed on aspects such as health of the internal climate, management of the construction process, energy efficiency, transport around, to and in the building, water consumption and waste. The building achieved a total score of 76.35% and has therefore been awarded a BREEAM-NL Excellent certificate.
