Next to the historic farm De Grote Geer, the newbuild property ‘t Bouwhuys has been developed according to the design of architectural firm reA. ‘t Bouwhuys is a multifunctional meeting space and annex to the Gezinshuis de Grote Geer, a family foster home and space for assisted living for young adults in Houten, the Netherlands. This new building’s design was inspired by the look of a classic barn, but with a modern twist. The pitched roof is covered with a green roof on the north side while the south side provides sustainable energy with solar panels.

Sedum and solar
Solar panels and green roofs are a great match. Their combination on one roof provides the benefits of sustainable energy generation and greenery, such as a stimulation of local biodiversity and an improved living environment. Sedum vegetation can prosper even on (steeply) pitched roofs, like this project. We’ve developed a special Sedum blanket and system structure precisely for steeply pitched applications up to 45 degrees. Would you like to know more about the possibility of pitched green roofs?
